~Collection of the artist~

My newest series of paintings is based on the process of assigning value of living beings. This series, titled " Worth", explores and questions common assumptions and challenges old ideas of what constitutes worthiness.
In the paining " What he is good for?" I asked the following question, how do we determine what it means to be valuable? Obviously a miniature donkey can't do hard physical labor nor can he be sold for meat, so what is he good for? In my opinion, we often see animals in terms of their ability to work or to produce a commodity that can be sold. In essence, valuing them only in regards to their profitability. In contrast, I can attest that by simply being in their company, they make us better people.
They easily express affection; they honestly present their feelings and intentions and their value is determined by the feelings they generate in others.

Worth series: Painting #2 What does she do?
"What do you do with them?" That question is likely to be most common question asked of any donkey and mule owner. I have decided that asking that question with my art, would make an excellent painting for this series. The subject matter for this painting is a 4-year-old miniature mule named Bea.
Bea is an adventure mule. She will boldly lead out into territory she has never seen before. She will climb over bridges, she will wear the dreaded " blanket" and she will trust, but that trust is hard earned.
Bea teaches us that it's okay to go to a place you've never been before. In essence, a new place isn't inherently bad. She sees adventure, not possible problems.
Bea also teaches that we are all created differently. Her traits and characteristics are unlike any other. She requires her own style of learning, her own style of existence and she won't settle for what doesn't suit her. This lesson demonstrates the need to be patient, loving and above all else, to recognize that change and newness can be welcomed.
~ For me, these are incredible things to do.~

This painting features a former resident of Holyland, her name is Brittany. I featured her because she is an older donkey that some may have rejected due to age and manageable health concerns. I want to draw attention to the value in life and what motivates us to save animals. She is successfully living with her new family!
* This is for sale at $650.00.
100% of the purchase price is donated to Holyland.
